The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) website monitors countries all around the world and works closely with the respective Embassy’s to ensure its statements are factual and warranted. From time to time, when a country experiences civil or political unrest, or natural disasters, the advise Britons not to travel to this country. As this is an impartial Government organisation, the UK Insurance Industry adhere to their warnings closely, therefore in your travel insurance policy wording, you will find mention of the FCO – Check Before You Go service and that you should not travel against their advice as to do so would invalidate your policy. A recent disturbance in Thailand has meant that the country is on the FCO list and Britons are advised not to travel there. However, not all parts of Thailand are experiencing these issues and some people still have genuine reason to visit. In these circumstances, we look to a non-UK travel specialist who is not bound by the same FCO rules.
