Pru Health is a brand new kind of private medical insurance that gives you all the cover you'd expect but with a big difference - they encourage you to improve your health and reward you for making the effort. One of the ways we can reward you is with lower insurance premiums, so in essence, the more you do the less you pay. In fact as long as you don’t make a claim, you’ll receive 25% of your first year’s premium towards the cost of your next year’s cover. Do a bit more and you could even save 100% off your next year’s premium. We also help you live a healthier lifestyle, for example, you can save £55 a month on gym membership at Holmes Place and Cannons Health and Fitness clubs.
They believe that encouraging you to stay healthy is just as important as looking after you when you're ill. That's why we offer the combination of outstanding insurance cover, the opportunity for you to manage your health and, most importantly, the reward of lower insurance premium costs. This idea is called Vitality - it's central to what Pru Health is and what makes it unique.
By incentivising members to get actively involved in their own health and well-being, Pru Health not only promotes a healthier lifestyle, but also reduces the risk against the policy... Never before has any single insurer taken such a bold step in controlling premiums...
The plan rewards you for:
Not having made claims by reducing premiums
Healthy lifestyles: reduced gym membership
Looking after yourself: check-ups and screening
Vitality Points: the more you do, the more you get. See the examples below:
Example 1: John & Sue both aged 26 years old contacted us as they were interested in Private Medical Insurance. However, their main preferences were that they did not want to experience large increases over the years and wanted value for money. Therefore, after producing a market analysis, we found that the Comprehensive plan from the insurer Pru Health came in very competitive for their age group. They were quoted a monthly premium of £87.75, which was to cover them for all their in-patient, day-patient and out-patient treatment as well as extra benefits. By making sure they went to the gym twice a week, didn’t smoke and maintained their BMI, they accumulated vitality points which took them to the highest level of cover. We then looked at the Pru Health Premium Predictor, which calculates how much they could be paying next year. This was based on John & Sue not making any claims and reaching the Platinum status with their vitality points. Next years premium could cost them as little as £7.23 a month. John & Sue were extremely happy with the premiums quoted and felt that the plan was suited to them. They also liked the unique feature that Pru Health offered them — full membership at Cannons Health Club for just £25 a month. They took up this plan immediately. Example 2: Mr Lloyd is an energetic individual who likes to maintain a healthy life style. He is a 36 year old who was interested in Private Medical Insurance. He wanted us to find a plan which would be affordable and give him something back in return. We recommended he looked into the Comprehensive plan as it came in very competitive in price.
We quoted him £41.83 a month, which was to cover him for all his in-patient, day-patient and out-patient treatment as well as extra benefits. By making sure he went to the gym twice a week, didn’t smoke and improved his fitness rating, he accumulated vitality points which took him to the highest level of cover; Platinum.
Using the Premium Predictor, we calculated what he could be paying next year. The premium was based on him reaching the Platinum status, which meant he could be paying as little as £4.18 a month.
Mr Lloyd was very happy with the prompt service he received from Pru Health and decided to proceed with the recommended plan.
Introducing Pru Health Vitality:
Vitality is Pru Health’s unique way of helping you look after your health and rewarding you for doing it.
It’s simple; all you need to do is register your Vitality activities to earn points. The more points you earn, the higher the Vitality Status you’ll achieve. Then at the end of the year, your accrued Vitality points will reflect what percentage of your current annual premium you'll receive back towards next year's cover. Not only that, but the higher your Vitality status, the more Pru Health benefits you can qualify for.
Manage your health using Pru Health partners
Manage your health participating in Vitality activities
Earn Vitality points and increase your Vitality status
Use your Vitality status to get Vitality rewards including lower premiums
At the end of each policy year under an individual product, depending on your Vitality status, you'll receive a percentage of your unclaimed premium back as a reward. This is deducted from the cost of your insurance premium for the following year. However, reduced premiums are just one of the ways in which we reward PruHealth members. As a PruHealth member you can take advantage of a range of benefits through our health and wellbeing partners including specially agreed rates when using their services. The higher your status level, the greater the discount you could receive.
An example...
1. A typical family living in London has an annual premium of around £1,100.
2. If they don’t claim, they receive a 25% reward and if they make an effort to improve their health they will increase their reward to 50% – that’s £550 off.
3. If for example, at the 50% reward level, they make a claim for £500, this will be deducted from their £1,100 contribution leaving them with 50% of what’s left – that will still be £300 off. And even if you claim very heavily we will limit any additional premiums to a maximum of 15%.
