Your choice of underwriting
There are three different ways that we can assess your medical history and your eligibility for treatment. This is called underwriting. It’s important that you read and understand each of the three options below before choosing one.
1. Moratorium
If you choose this option you don’t have to give any details of your medical history in the application form. We will not cover any medical conditions that existed in the five years prior to your application. These conditions will become eligible for cover two years after you join. This applies to all family members covered.
2. Full Medical Underwriting
If you choose this option you will have to provide all the details of your medical history in the application form. By doing this you have the advantage of knowing exactly what you are covered for. It’s essential that you give all the information you are asked for. If you are not sure whether or not to mention something, it’s best to do so as failure may mean that we cannot cover a claim or that your policy is invalid. It may be necessary for us to write to your doctor for more information. If you or any of your dependants have a medical condition that is likely to recur, that condition (and any related to it) will probably not be covered.
3. Switching from an Existing Provider
If you have started a fully underwritten policy and not made a claim in the last two years this simplified underwriting option could be better for you. You do not have to answer any detailed questions on your medical history, so it could be the ideal option if you are switching to PruHealth from another insurance provider. If you have existing exclusions, these will be carried across and continued.
If you are unsure about whether this plan is suitable for you and/or your family, call 0800 977 6006 and ask a policy adviser for details...
